Infernal Desires is a video work made in response to the luxury fashion environment of Selfridges & Co, London.

The video takes cues from the Bluebeard fairy-tale as a story about the dangers of material seduction and desire, and the vulgarities of extravagance as inadequate replacements for emotional satisfaction.

Sited in a fitting-room context, Infernal Desires uses augmented reality technology to transform the female character by allowing them to try on the skins of different mannequins and employees from the store. Silhouettes of motifs found within the department store and taken from Bluebeard are introduced as tools which interrupt the digital mapping of the face, breaking and manipulating the digital mask, but also reflecting the making process in their reflective surface.

Infernal Desires, made as part of a ‘Fitting Room Residency’ at Selfridges &Co., London, curated by SKIP Gallery
